Abstract

The pilot manufacturing factory for SweatX, the noble anti-sweatshop brand that aspired to prove that fully unionized and even worker-owned garment factories can thrive in a sea of sweatshops, quietly closed its doors in May. The small Los Angeles plant, launched by the Hot Fudge venture capital fund run by Ben Cohen (co-founder of Ben & Jerry's), had struggled during its two years of operation.

Vision Takes Time

On the road to a new society, one no longer based on profit, wages, capital and exploitation, we will experience many stops & starts, evolvolution takes time. But as this prsent system breaks down & becomes an obvious failure that no longer functions productively for the health & wellbeing of the 99.9% ....such experiements will lead to POLITICAL EXPRESSION, new alternative parties, as we finally abandon all hope in the Democrats and so-called Progressives (stuck in the present, unable & unwilling to move ahead & imagine a new way to live- free of the present encumbrances of Capitalism. When we have tried to be cooperative without having a vision and strategy to peacefully & democratically vote to replace capitalism's relationships with new cooperative ones (thru electing OUR representatives into Congress & all local governance structures). Only new political voting (start with the Green Party) will allow the dialogue needed to have a different discussion about "what do we do next?' Lets start now. Leland was immature in his analysis (during a 'young Capitalism') Now we can see its time for a more mature vision, that combines cooperative ventures WITH new democratic structures uniting & balancing & integrating the economy with the community. Its time. www.PeopleForANewSociety.org
