The Worker Cooperative Federal Credit Union in its start-up phase is having a fundraiser on March 11th at the venerable Cheese Board Collective. If you are in the Bay Area, be sure to come support this important project, or donate online. (Also see the event's Facebook page.) Below is an interview of organizer Mike Leung about the project from 2010.

I have spoken to Mike about this endeavor and would like to engage him and the larger audience of folks interested in promoting Worker Owned Co-ops as to the necessary and desirable 'infrastructure' to pursue this goal. As I have talked with Mike, in my capacity serving on the Member Education Committee of the Berkeley Co-operative Federal Credit Union, I'm most interested in engaging the membership of the credit union about worker owned co-operatives and collectives and possible consumer co-operative roles. I hope that OPEIU Local 29, the union that represents the employees of the credit union, can be brought into this conversation. Besides being a member of the old Co-op grocery store, I have been a union organizer and rep. for SEIU and 1199J, as well as a rank and file member and activist with other unions including OEA/CTA/NEA, on which I served on the joint policy committee with the AFT local, of which I was also a member. My education at the Department of City and Regional Planning included local economic development planning and community development planning. This education was at UC Berkeley where I still retain contacts and engage that community. My present work on the City of Berkeley Labor Commissioner hopefully could be of value. Note: I'm not currently a member of a Co-op, yet.

This seems like a cause that credit unions in Utah would be interested in following.
