New York City's Urban Justice Center has provided general legal counsel and legal services to New York City community-based organizations, including having "assisted nonprofits and schools form a worker cooperative corporation under Article 5A of the New York Cooperative Corporations Law [and] obtained outside pro bono assistance from a large law firm to advise on securities regulations issues as the co-op issued shares and discussed capitalization." 

The Center helped organize the 2008 Fair Work symposium and the New York City Cooperative Network.  They have worked with COLORS Restaurant, and The Center for Family Life.  UJC staff attorney Ted de Barbieri and Fordham Community Economic Development Clinic's Brian Glick recently co-authored the article Legal Entity Options for Worker Cooperatives, excerpted from a forthcoming legal guide on forming worker cooperatives.
