Job Opening: Pedal Express, Berkeley

Pedal Express Berkeley is looking for a new worker owner to start training in July. This position is part time, approximately 3 days/20 hours a week plus a 2 hour evening meeting twice a month. The schedule is to be determined and can be flexible as far as days of the week are concerned. There is a 6 month trial period during which you will be considered an employee, at which point we will vote on making you a worker owner. You will not receive most benefits during these 6 months.

Pedal Express opened for business in 1994. We offer bicycle delivery service in the East Bay, including Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, and Oakland. We offer cargo delivery, although the majority of our work is not over sized and much of it is regularly scheduled routes. We are a small company with 4 worker-owners, one of whom will be replaced by the new hire. We have always been cooperatively owned, and all of our company decisions are made democratically through consensus.

Our new worker owner will ride about 3 shifts per week and also be responsible for a share of our administrative and marketing duties. We are actively growing our business and seeking new clients, so enthusiasm for marketing is just as important - if not more - than enthusiasm for cycling. The most challenging part of this the job is all the little details that go into being an organized business owner. You are required to use your own bicycle, and will
need to have a rear rack and multiple gears. We are looking for someone who meets all of our required qualifications and at least some of the desired ones. We are happy to work to train you in some areas that you do not have experience in. Our ideal candidate will be able to make a 2 year commitment to Pedal Express. Please detail your experience in your cover letter.
